Comedians are often multi-talented entertainers, and some of them have written very successful books! In today’s article, we’ll be talking about three comedians whose books we highly recommend.

Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling is incredibly funny and a hugely successful comedian, actor and writer. She first got famous for writing and starring in the TV show The Office, and subsequently, her own sitcom called The Mindy Project.

So far, she has written two New York Times best-selling memoirs– Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me and Why Not Me. They’re both about Kaling’s hilarious, honest and shameless observations about love, friendship, hollywood, dieting and so on.

Here are some quotes from her books:

“Maybe the point is that any marriage is work, but you may as well pick work that you like.”

“If it weren’t for my imagination, I would weigh ten thousand pounds. This is because the only way I am able to exercise anymore is through a long and vivid revenge fantasy.”

“Asking your friend to be a bridesmaid is one of the modern paradoxes: no one actually wants to do it, but everyone would be offended if you didn’t ask.”

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais is a famous British actor best known for creating and starring in the TV shows, The Office and Extras. But did you know that he is also a children’s book writer? That’s right, he created a series of books called Flanimals, which depicts a list of seemingly useless or inadequate animals, and their behaviours.

For instance, there’s the Plamglotis, a purple ape-like Flanimal with no legs so it swallows its hands to walk around to find food, which it can’t eat because its mouth is full. Or, there’s the Mernimbler, a fluffy, pink, round Flanimal that turns into an aggressive adult stage when someone comments on how cute it is. This witty and entertaining book will get both parents and children sniggering away.

Gurmit Singh

We are delighted to mention one of our own – Gurmit Singh – who is a local comedian and actor best known for his role in Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd. But if that’s all you know about him, then you must borrow his book titled What Was I Thinking. He shares with us not just his funny moments in life but deeply personal stories too. You will walk away with a smile on your face and a better understanding of this endearing character!

And there you have it, 3 comedians/authors we simply adore. Here’s a list of some other famous comedians who have written books of their own: Amy Schumer, Judd Apatow, Aziz Ansari, George Carlin and Amy Poehler.
